 THE LIBRARIAN’S NEWS

LOVE YOUR LIBRARY

The news from the library is ongoing and we are busy.  No two days are the same so you will never find the librarians idle.  There is always something to do.  Our day begins at 8:00 am with the librarians arriving at work.  We begin by waking up everything, us included.  With all the computers turned on, we run updates and scans on all the systems so they will be ready for the public by the time the doors open at 10:00 am.

Late this summer Bob Daniel the Bookmobile driver has been working to restock the bus and is now ready to travel.  The bus begins service in late August with the onset of school so Bob loads it with books rural students, teachers and patrons will enjoy.  He also sees that the bus is ready to roll by having maintenance completed.  The bus travels approximately 12,000 miles per year offering services to our rural patrons. To those of you who look forward to the arrival of the Bookmobile he’s on his way.  To those of you who have wondered about such service, the Bookmobile is an absolutely wonderful way for the library to take material out to rural patrons so they can enjoy material from the library.  We feel this is a great way to expand our brick and mortar facility.

We are preparing for a fall book sale in October.  We have lots of items to offer and enjoy being able to recycle some of our material that is no longer checked out.  This sale gives us the opportunity to add new things to our shelves keeping our collection vibrant and fresh.

The last new thing that I want to tell you about now is that we as library employees have heard you.  Beginning October 1 and extending through April 30, the library will remain open on Monday nights until 8:00 pm.  We thought we would try this through the winter months for those of you who might like to spend some time here after your work day and not feel rushed.

It is our hope that you enjoy your library.  We are proud of the services we offer to the residents of Valentine and Cherry County.  We hope you view your library as a treasure and enjoy it.  It is our mission and commitment to you that we provide you with the best possible service we can and at the same time preserve the library as the intellectual center where you will find innovative and sustainable library service.  Please come in and see us.  We want you to be a part of what is going on here and who knows, you might even leave us with a good book in hand.

 Sincerely,

Anne Quigley - Director
