MISSION STATEMENT

     This new mission statement was designed to guide the Library in making consistent decisions, to develop an organizational unity, and to integrate its short-term objectives, longer-term goals, and service responses. It also clarifies the direction of the Library, and provides a reference point from which specific strategies can be assessed and progress can be measured.

      The Valentine Public Library is the learning center of our community and surrounding area and the place people turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information.

THE VALENTINE PUBLIC LIBRARY IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ITS PATRONS:

The benefit and pleasure of learning and discovery through its collection, services and staff;

Access to and assistance in using emerging technologies which serve as a gateway to information resources within and beyond our walls;

Quality service demonstrating respect for the individual: and

A pleasing, comfortable, and safe setting in which library collections and customer service are readily accessible.

THE VALENTINE PUBLIC LIBRARY’S MISSION STATEMENT IS ANCHORED BY THE FOLLOWING ASSUMPTIONS:

A responsibility to offer Library service to everyone;

The City of Valentine's commitment to a public library;

The commitment of Cherry County to a public library that will serve the citizenry outside the city limits.

A responsiveness to and an awareness for the community;

Cooperative efforts with other City departments and other agencies;

Commitment to intellectual freedom for all.
